I've really enjoyed following your journey - thanks so much for sharing some much helpful info! I think probably hiring your MIL to check your mail and deposit cheques would be the best option for you next time (or some kind of auto pay option!)

Thanks for the comment. Maybe I was just struck by the dichotomy between my expectations and the reality of the situation. I expected idyllic. I got the opposite, IMHO. Still, agreed: If I lived there, I'd swim there...

One thing you have to keep in mind is that most of those people live right around there; I grew up right down the street and used to swim there all the time. So while it might not seem like they were interested in Thoreau, they have probably been there a hundred times, like I was. Although, you would think they could do without the plastic and pre-packaged food, but hey, that's America for ya.

Oh how I miss Walden Pond. Was back there last summer, had a great time...

Jeff: Once I went on a HDT/Robt Pirsig weekend with about 7 others. We stayed in a cabin. I remember burning the bacon in the wood stove and learning that when you do the dishes you simply do the dishes. (the later may be more Pirsig than Thoreau) Anyway I envy you having more than 3 days away from your home office.
If you recall, my husband and I own a trucking company. He's on the road all the time - 250 days a year. It's easier if you're running solo on the road. But just note that there's alot of folks out on the road that are working like you each and every day.
Once at a truck stop I looked out of the cab and on either side were other truckers in their cabs on their laptops. Wasn't always that way.
Enjoy the ride!
